Week 11

This lecture was based on negotiating skills. These skills are based on interpersonal skills, understanding the nature of the conflict, recognising outside forces, setting targets and objectives, designing strategies, and finally developing alternative outcomes. interpersonal skills are about listening to what people are saying, interpret their body language, controlling your own body language, communicating persuasively, and managing stress and pressure. I learnt that by acquiring these skills are vital within any negotiating situations. Understanding the nature of the conflict and analysing it also helps towards a positive outcome. Also setting targets and objectives helps before the negotiating begins, this helps to identify any issues which have little movement possible on your part and also clarifies any expectations from the negotiation.I learnt that agreements reached need to be respected by all parties or they are pointless, a good negotiation results in both sides being satisfied with the agreements reached and each thinking they have the best possible outcome. Everyone should have some good negotiating skills, within a group the team leader should have better negotiating skills, as they are the ones who control most tasks. If in a group i would expect the team leader to negoiate quite well, understanding the nature of conflicts and have certain strategies in place when needed.

Week 10

This week's lecture was based on decision making. i learnt there are 5 basic steps invovled when doing decision making, these are specifying aims, reviewing the factors, determining the possible courses of action, making the decision, implementing the decision. I learnt these steps are needed to make any decision. risk is also a factor when implementing a decision, i understood there can be certian risks invovled, by being aware of these risk factors, you should also determine the acceptenace level of risk, and only to take those decisions for which the risk is acceptable. Most of the decisions in my life are decided my me, sometimes i can take risks and sometimes i do not, however i have learnt now that there is more to then just making a decision, there are risks invovled and not being aware of these can have serious consquences. So it is best to implement these 5 basic steps in order for the decision, and risk to be acceptable.

Week 9

In this weeks lecture we were taught on CV's,application forms and careers. There were various information on the purpose of writing a CV,style, content, covering letter. In these topics i learned what contents are invovled in writing a CV, the style in which a CV should be written in,the content in what the CV should invovle and lastly the covering letter a introductory letter which is attached to the CV, which encourages the reader to read your CV. Applications forms are another way to show the recruiter you may be the ideal candidate for the job. Applications forms are created by the company so they may elborate on certain topics such as appreance, skills and other abilities. Forms are usually separated into serveral sections which makes it easier to jot down specific topics, which also makes it easier to read. I currently have a reasonably good standard CV, but since the things i learnt in this lecture i have improved on my CV, to widen my horizons and hopefully offer me better career prospects.

Week 8

In this week's lecture we were taught on body language and interviewing skills. The main form of communication is body language and the way we present our selves has an effect on our perceiving audience. Body language is at the highest peak of communicating, then it is down to voice and words. So the way we come across is very important. There are several steps of how to have the almost perfect body language, if this is done correctly then relating effectively to others is also done.Eye contact is very important one of the most important facial expressions, if there is none or not enough eye contact with the audience then the information that you are trying to give out is not flowing effectively and therefore the presentation doesn't go well as anticipated. Practising with your group can enhance your body language, and interviewing skills, as you feel more comfortable with your group and if you are able to present good body language skills this will be a positive reflection when it comes to the presentation.

week 7

In today's lesson i learned about role play and video production. role plays are how people act out and perform certain skills and behaviours in a situation. The whole point of performing role plays is it allows you to practise new skills in a controlled environment, and has the opportunity to allow feedback from fellow students and tutors.when performing role plays sometimes there is an opportunity to be videoed and to have live feedback of how you were perceived. As mentioned previously practise makes perfect, and i am more confident as i know now how to present my presentation and with the help of acquiring new skills it Will benefit me in the long run. I did not have a group but if i did i would of definately practise doing roles plays with my group, as this improves the groups confidence within the team and when it comes to the presentation skills, certain people would of improved within their presentation skills.

week 6

In this week's session i learned about verbal presentation. This information consisted of elements that are needed to present to a high standard. This is essential to practise in front of an audience as it will help to boost ur confidence and make sure the timings and other issues are running smoothly. The presentor also needs to be smooth on commuincation skills as he/she needs to be portray their arguement efficently and effectively, this is vital when engaging with the audience and so the audience will be interested. When we say pratice makes perfect, it wouldnt be perfect but it would be to the best of the person's abilty. Doing their best in their eyes is something that is perfect and are happy with it. Also if someone is also aware of that person's weaknesses and have shown a vast improvement in themselves their opinons would be also said as perfect meaning its to the best of your capability.
